Obstructive sleep apnea and the dentist's role in diagnosis and treatment

Mar 17, 2023 | Pathologies

The March 17 marks World Sleep Day and, on this occasion, we talk about theobstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

This is a condition in which breathing stops involuntarily for short periods of time during sleep; this is normally due to narrowing of the airway in the back of the throat.

Dentists have the knowledge and training to diagnose sleep apnea through radiographs of the patient's mouth and neck or through a hands-on examination to determine what is obstructing the person's breathing.

For the patients suffering from sleep apnea In our study we use the SomnoDent® oral appliance, a mandibular advancement device that enables very effective treatment of obstructive apnea of sleep and is very comfortable to wear.

It is a CE-compliant clinically validated, tested and patented device with clinically proven efficacy in the treatment of OSA and customizable to the patient's individual needs.

SomnoDent® allows for normal opening and closing of the mouth but also for speaking and drinking when worn; confortable to carry and discreet during use is easy to take on the road!
